US Navy Lone Sailor Changing Stations

Cleveland (September, 2024)

Housed at the Great Lakes Science for the past three years, the US Navy Lone Sailor Statue received its permanent “change of station orders” on September 16.  The statue will be moved this October to its new home in the new Lone Sailor Plaza being built in Voinovich Park in Cleveland at the end of East 9th Street.

The plaza will feature plaques honoring the service of Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard personnel from the Northeast Ohio area.  NEOPAT is proud to be a sponsor of this initiative and will be providing a special plaque for the plaza honoring Navy Corpsman Maxton Soviak of Berlin, Ohio.  A recipient of NEOPAT’s Charles Kirby Wilcox Award, Soviak was one of 13 service members killed in action on the last day of the US pullout from Afghanistan.

The plaza initiative of the project of the USS Cleveland Foundation.  The newest Navy ship to bear the Cleveland name will be coming to Cleveland next year.
