Rocky River (October, 2024)
On Friday, October 25, Rocky River honored servicemen and veterans with the Danny Scherry Salute to Service during their game night. This program celebrates the sacrifices of military members and encourages the community to support and serve one another, promoting patriotism and civic pride.
This year, a special addition was unveiled at Rocky River’s Detroit Rd. stadium. Junior Henry Ward, inspired by past Salute to Service weeks, took on a unique project as part of his journey to becoming an Eagle Scout. Blending his love for Pirate athletics with civic duty, Ward created the POW/MIA Honor Seat—a dedicated stadium seat that honors Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action. This seat, which isn’t meant for additional seating, stands as a permanent reminder of the ultimate sacrifices made by our nation’s troops.
