U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion Cleveland Marks Leadership Transition

The United States Army Recruiting Battalion Cleveland marked an important leadership transition during a Change of Responsibility Ceremony held on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland.

Lieutenant Colonel Hayden D. Scardina, commander of the U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion Cleveland, presided over the ceremony as Command Sergeant Major Robert Burkhammer relinquished responsibility of the battalion to Command Sergeant Major Arlondo Sutton.

A Change of Responsibility Ceremony is a time-honored military tradition that formally recognizes the transfer of authority and responsibility from one senior enlisted leader to another. It represents the continuity of leadership while reaffirming the Army’s enduring commitment to accountability, discipline, readiness and the well-being of its Soldiers.

As the commander’s principal enlisted advisor, the command sergeant major plays an essential role in maintaining the standards, values and traditions of the United States Army. The position carries particular importance within the Army Recruiting Battalion Cleveland, which represents the Army throughout the region and connects individuals with opportunities to serve their country.

The ceremony honored Command Sergeant Major Burkhammer for his dedicated leadership and service to the battalion while formally welcoming Command Sergeant Major Sutton to his new role.
