At this year’s NFL Draft, Rick DeChant received a remarkable honor: he was selected as the Cleveland Browns’ representative for induction into the inaugural NFL Salute to Service Hall of Heroes—a national recognition of individuals making a significant impact on the lives of military families. Out of 32 nominees, one from each NFL team, DeChant stood out not only as a long-time advocate for veterans but also as the sole U.S. Coast Guard nominee.
DeChant, Senior Advisor Emeritus of NEOPAT, was humbled by the experience and proud to represent the Northeast Ohio region. The moment was made even more meaningful by the Cleveland Browns’ deep ties to the U.S. Coast Guard through legendary player and retired Captain Otto Graham. Wearing the team’s colors, DeChant said he hoped he made the Captain proud.
The draft itself was a spectacle, with crowds in Green Bay estimated at over 280,000—more than doubling the city’s population for the event. Each inductee received first-class treatment, but for DeChant, the highlight was standing on behalf of those who continue to serve our nation and the local veterans who support them.

DeChant praised the Browns’ community outreach team, especially Jenner Tekancic, for their unwavering support and collaboration in helping military families.
