At NEOPAT, we know that patriotism is more than a feeling—it’s about action, service, and standing together as a community. That’s why we were incredibly honored to be chosen as this year’s beneficiary of a one-of-a-kind 4th of July celebration hosted by Angel and Shaun Sledz, a Northeast Ohio family whose annual tradition is rooted in generosity, gratitude, and love for our country.
What began 14 years ago as a small backyard cookout for family and close friends has grown into a full-blown fireworks celebration that draws an enthusiastic crowd—and a deep sense of purpose. The idea to turn their gathering into a fundraiser came from Shaun, who, inspired by the persistent generosity of their guests and the sacrifices of military veterans and first responders, saw an opportunity to give back in a meaningful way.
That spark of an idea first came to life in 2020, when the Sledz family set out a simple donation box and raised $300 for the Gary Sinise Foundation. Since then, their Independence Day party has evolved into an annual effort to raise awareness and funds for organizations serving veterans and military families. This year, they proudly selected NEOPAT—the first 100% local nonprofit they’ve supported—to be the recipient of their efforts.
With thoughtful planning, meaningful conversations, and materials shared about NEOPAT’s mission, the Sledz family turned an already impactful event into a powerful show of support for those who serve. Their story reminds us that community-driven acts of service—no matter how they start—can grow into something truly extraordinary.
We are deeply grateful to Angel, Shaun, and their entire circle of family and friends for their generosity, leadership, and continued commitment to uplifting our veteran and military community. As Angel shared, this year’s celebration has already inspired them to “go harder” next year—and we have no doubt their impact will continue to grow.
From all of us at NEOPAT: thank you for your incredible support, your belief in our mission, and for reminding us that patriotism shines brightest when it brings people together in service of others.
