Who is eligible to apply for financial assistance?

NEOPAT provides financial assistance to honorably discharged veterans, active-duty service members, and their families living within our 20-county service area in Northeast Ohio. Exceptions may be made for veterans with general discharge under honorable conditions, based on fund availability and circumstances.

What counties are included in NEOPAT's service area?

NEOPAT serves the following 20 counties in Northeast Ohio:
Ashland, Ashtabula, Carroll, Columbiana, Coshocton, Cuyahoga, Erie, Geauga, Holmes, Huron, Lake, Lorain, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Richland, Stark, Summit, Trumbull, and Wayne counties.

What types of assistance are available?

NEOPAT offers assistance for:

  • Rent and mortgage payments
  • Utility bills
  • Auto/vehicle expenses
  • Emergency needs
  • Other support based on individual circumstances
Can I apply if I’ve already received assistance?

Yes, but there are limits. Applicants are typically eligible for assistance once per year. If you’ve reached your maximum number of requests, we may not be able to accommodate additional support.

Application Process

How do I apply for assistance?

To apply, complete the application form on the financial assistance portal. Be prepared to provide supporting documentation, such as proof of service, a copy of your lease/mortgage statement, utility bills, or other relevant documents.

What documents do I need to submit with my application?

Required documents include:

  • Proof of military service (DD214 or military ID)
  • Proof of residency (lease agreement, utility bill, etc.)
  • Supporting documentation for your specific request (e.g., unpaid bills, repair estimates)
How long does it take to process my application?

Applications are typically reviewed within 7-10 business days. You will be contacted if additional information is needed or if your request has been approved or declined.

Can I submit an application on behalf of someone else?

Yes, but you will need written consent from the individual you are assisting and must provide all required documents on their behalf.

How will I know if my application is approved?

You will receive an email notification or a phone call from our team with the status of your application.

What happens if my application is declined?

If your application is declined, you will be notified with an explanation. In some cases, we may provide guidance or referrals to other resources that can help.

Are there limits on the amount of assistance I can receive?

Yes, the amount of assistance provided varies depending on your circumstances and available funds. The maximum support will be communicated during the application process.
