Casting Lines, Building Bonds: A Memorable Day on the Water

Casting Lines, Building Bonds: A Memorable Day on the Water

On Friday, August 22nd, the Perry Demming Outdoor Freedom Project hosted its annual fishing outing with veterans from the VA—and what a day it was! With one of the biggest turnouts we’ve ever had.

From the moment veterans arrived, there was a sense of camaraderie that carried through the entire day. Some came eager to cast their first line in years, while others shared tips and stories from countless fishing trips past. The simple joy of fishing, of waiting patiently and celebrating every catch, reminded us all of the power of slowing down and being present in the moment.

Beyond the fishing, what truly made the day special was the company. Conversations flowed easily, friendships were strengthened, and new connections were made. Veterans swapped stories of service, shared laughs, and found comfort in a community that understands the unique bond of military life.

Of course, no gathering would be complete without great food. The shared table became another place to connect, relax, and reflect on the day.

The Perry Demming Outdoor Freedom Project was built on the belief that time spent outdoors can bring healing, joy, and connection. Friday’s event was a shining example of that mission in action. To all who joined us, thank you for making this year’s outing one of the most memorable yet. We’re already looking forward to next year’s cast.
