On Sunday, May 4th, families gathered in quiet strength and solidarity at Key Plaza, overlooking The Fountain of Eternal Life, for a Gold Star Family Brunch honoring their loved ones who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. On a misty spring morning the powerful sculpture reaching skyward, we shared stories, memories, and a commitment to keep their legacies alive.
The Fountain of Eternal Life, restored thanks to the efforts of the Greater Cleveland Veterans Memorial Commission, stood as a powerful backdrop—a symbol of hope, remembrance, and the enduring spirit of those who served. We extend heartfelt gratitude to Vietnam veteran Joseph Meissner who spoke and the Commission for their dedication to preserving this sacred memorial, ensuring it remains a place of reflection and gathering for generations to come.
Throughout the morning families connected over shared experiences—each carrying a unique story of love, loss, and resilience. Among those honored were the families of Corporal Brad Anthony Davis, U.S. Army Specialist Adam S. Hamilton, CW2 Brian D. Hazelgrove, U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Kyle R. McKee, Marine Lance Cpl. Andrew “Ace” W. Nowacki, USMC LCpl Daniel R. Scherry, U.S. Navy Corpsman Maxton W. Soviak, and Corporal Brad Squires—each name representing a life of courage, commitment, and enduring love.
As we looked toward the fountain, watching its waters flow in a steady, timeless rhythm, we were reminded that remembrance is not confined to a single moment or monument. It lives in every embrace shared between families, in every story retold, and in every act of kindness done in their names.
Sunday’s brunch was not only a time to look back in reverence but to look around and see the strength in community—a community determined to honor, to support, and to never forget.
To all who joined us: thank you for allowing us to walk beside you in remembrance. May the Fountain of Eternal Life continue to stand as a testament to the love, sacrifice, and enduring legacy of our fallen heroes.
