NEOPAT had a special opportunity to spread its mission of community, service, and patriotism last week. Senior Advisor and retired Coast Guard Commander Rick DeChant was invited to be the Veterans Day guest speaker for the Fairview Park Chapter of the Young Marines on November 8.
Thirty-five Young Marines, dressed in fatigues and ready to learn, gathered to hear DeChant speak about what service truly means—both in and out of uniform. He shared a message that aligns closely with NEOPAT’s core initiatives: promoting patriotism through community engagement and inspiring others to serve in meaningful ways.
DeChant talked about the idea of “service after service,” reminding these future leaders that giving back doesn’t stop when the uniform comes off. Whether through volunteering, supporting fellow veterans, or strengthening their community, everyone has the ability—and responsibility—to serve.
He also shared a fascinating piece of history, touching on the longstanding relationship between the Marine Corps and the Coast Guard, a connection that dates all the way back to 1790. The Young Marines walked away with not only a deeper sense of pride, but also a better understanding of how our military branches uplift and support one another.
Moments like this reflect what NEOPAT strives to do every day—encourage patriotism, civic responsibility, and community involvement across Northeast Ohio. By investing in our youth and sharing real-world lessons from those who’ve served, we’re helping build a stronger, more united community rooted in gratitude and service.
