On April 25th, NEOPAT, in partnership with the Perry Demming Outdoor Freedom Project, hosted a special day of fly fishing at the scenic Rockwell Springs Trout Club. This peaceful setting served as the perfect backdrop for veterans from across the region to come together, cast a line, and connect with one another.
The day was more than just fishing—it was about fellowship, healing, and learning. Newcomers to the sport received helpful demonstrations and hands-on instruction from experienced anglers, making the experience welcoming and engaging for all skill levels. Veterans shared stories, swapped tips, and enjoyed a delicious lunch with their peers, building bonds that extended beyond the water’s edge.
Outdoor activities like this are more than just recreation—they’re powerful tools for supporting mental wellness. Research continues to show that time in nature, combined with meaningful social interaction, can significantly benefit those navigating life after service. Fly fishing, in particular, offers a calming rhythm and a chance to be fully present—something many veterans find therapeutic.
We are incredibly grateful for our partners who help make events like this possible. Their continued support ensures that our veterans have opportunities to relax, connect, and experience the healing power of the outdoors.
